Back to School - Prohibitions on CRT Shot Down by Democrats

Dear Friends,

I'm sure your social media feeds are full of friends' pictures of their kids heading back to school for the fall. And I'm happy to see them, especially since the last school year was so difficult, with the COVID-19 shutdowns, etc..

Unfortunately, some of what our students will be learning in public schools isn't the reading, writing, math, science, etc. that you'd expect. Instead, most school districts are engaged in indoctrination on politically- or socially charged topics, something that I have worked to prevent.

At the recent special session, Republicans proposed a budget amendment that would have prohibited schools from compelling students to affirm:

  • that any sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color, or national origin is inherently superior or inferior;
  • that individuals should be adversely treated on the basis of their sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color, or national origin; or
  • that individuals are inherently responsible for actions committed in the past by other members of the same sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color, or national origin.

Democrats limited debate to 2 minutes and then rejected this amendment (and a group of other amendments) on a party-line vote.

But there is hope! Parents are placing their kids in private and home schools in record numbers. Teachers are resigning, and going to teach kids in a better environment, and parents and teachers are standing up to fight for the truth, including school board recall efforts and yesterdays huge victory in the Supreme Court of Virginia for my constituent, Tanner Cross.

Schools are only one example of what happens with one-party rule in Richmond. For the last two years, Democrats have used their absolute control to pack the Court of Appealseliminate the photo ID requirement to vote, authorize plastic bag taxes and public employee unionsincrease electric bills, remove abortion restrictions, enact gun control, and adopt California's vehicle emission standards.

Help us stop this! The House of Delegates stands at 55 Democrats and 45 Republicans -- Republicans need just 6 seats to retake the majority.

Can I count on you today to help me have the resources I need to keep fighting for you in Richmond?

Republicans are Ready to Lead!

Yesterday, Republican nominee for governor Glenn Youngkin announced his Day One Game Plan, laying out the actions he will take on his first day in office toward achieving his vision of making Virginia the best place to live, work, and raise a family.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Cutting income taxes by doubling the standard deduction and reducing taxes on veteran retirement pay
  • Fully funding law enforcement and protecting qualified immunity for our law enforcement heroes
  • Keeping Virginia open and protecting lives and livelihoods
  • Restoring high expectations and getting every student college or career ready
  • Rebuilding crumbling schools, raising teacher pay, and investing in special education programs
  • Ridding political agendas from the classroom
  • Conducting a statewide transparency audit to root out waste, fraud, and abuse
