I’m working as your delegate to advance good ideas and kill bad ideas.
BAD IDEA - Common Core is a Federal Takeover of Education
The ultimate goal of Common Core is to have every school district follow the same national standards handed down to us by Washington bureaucrats. This is a failed educational approach that will undermine educational quality and choice. States and local communities know how to design standards based on their students’ and parents’ needs better than Washington bureaucrats.
Common Core is bad for parents, bad for teachers, bad for taxpayers, and bad for students.
The federal government should not control education. Localities need the ability to design unique curricula that best meets the needs of their students.
GOOD IDEA - Keep important decisions like whether or not Virginia should commit to Common Core in the hands of the elected members of the Virginia Legislature.
If you recall last session, both the House and Senate voted to pass my bill prohibiting the Virginia Board of Education from unilaterally adopting Common Core for Virginia. When the bill went to Governor McAuliffe’s desk, he vetoed it.
I’m working hard – and making tremendous headway – in bringing about educational improvements like real school choice, simplified homeschooling, and the protection of our public education from the Feds.
Our focus must be trained on academic achievement, not on creating costly bureaucratic boondoggles.
I need your help to stay on the job, working to improve the system that delivers education to our children.
Our re-election campaign has lots of expenses– printing, mail, advertising, staff and more. YOU are the most important member of the LaRock Team; if you are able, please contribute to keep us in good financial shape.
We’re counting on YOU for the financial backing we need.
Your help is absolutely essential to us!
