EDUCATION SAVINGS ACCOUNTS MOVES FORWARD OUT OF SENATE EDUCATION

Richmond, VA – The Senate Education Committee voted today to move Delegate Dave LaRock’s Education Savings Accounts bill forward to the Senate Finance Committee on a vote of 8-7, after hearing the testimony of supporters including parents and a former school board member.

“I’ve heard from frustrated parents from all around the Commonwealth who support this bill, support is building among school board members and federal and state education policy experts. Some traveled great distance to speak in support of this bill.”

“For three decades, states have tried to improve education outcomes by throwing more and more dollars at these challenges. Parental Choice Education Savings Accounts are a proven example of problem solving with smart innovation, not endless appropriations.
Education Savings Accounts are a vehicle through which parents are empowered to address the education needs of their children when those unique needs are not being met in a public school setting,” according to LaRock.

Education Savings Accounts programs are in operation in Florida, Arizona, Nevada, Mississippi and Tennessee; yielding improved academic outcomes while saving precious education dollars.
