Bad News for Republicans: The Timmy French Betrayal

Dear Friends,

Many Republicans from the Shenandoah Valley and beyond have been contacting me over the last month, disturbed by what happened on June 20th, (see our last email) and asking for answers. While we're still working with the data and learning more about what happened, some aspects of this are becoming quite clear.

Who Did Republicans Choose in the Senate District 1 Republican Primary?

Timmy French ran up his vote totals by allying with Republicans’ political and ideological adversaries.

Primary Election voter data shows many radical leftists voted in the Republican primary. Seven of the 8 candidates campaigned as constitutional conservative Republicans, in contrast to Timmy French who openly invited “everyone” to vote for him:

Over social media and email, local Democratic Party leadership urged Democrats to vote for Timmy, which they did in both early voting (12% of voters) and overall (10% of all Primary voters).

Here are the Political Affinity scores (0-100, with 0 being radical left, and 100 being Solid Conservative) of the June 20 "Republican Primary" voters. More data is available here.

What do those radical leftist who voted in our primary want to see as the future of Virginia? As the saying goes, "A picture speaks louder than a thousand words" - their vehicles on election day told the story:

Crossing another politically forbidden line, Timmy also formed an illegitimate alliance with a Frederick County political group, “Frederick First,” that was formed in alliance with Democrats to oppose local Republican candidates. Further efforts to get radical leftists out to vote were conducted by “Frederick County Strong,” a group that supports massive tax increases and subjugating parental rights to the whims of teachers' unions and education bureaucrats.

Put slightly differently, Timmy French betrayed Republican candidates and voters in Frederick County leading up to, and after, the June 20 Republican Primary. “Frederick First” people coordinated and campaigned side by side with Timmy’s paid staff on Election Day. Signs tell part of the story, but the June 23 Frederick First letter to the editor in the Winchester Star thanking Timmy for working with them leaves nothing to the imagination: “...Frederick First was proud to team up with Timmy French and play a part in his victory. Timmy has been a great friend to our Frederick First campaign, and we look forward to working with him through the rest of the election season and after…”

Republican voters chose Dave LaRock

The data makes it clear that without Timmy’s planned interference and alliance with Democrats, Dave LaRock’s vote total of Republican votes (4,409) far exceeded that of Timmy French (3,929 with Democrat votes removed) and the other 6 candidates. Without Democrat votes, French only won 13 of the 14 precincts in Shenandoah County, none elsewhere:

When looking at the pie chart with Democrats removed from Timmy's total, considering that Timmy was the lone moderate, one can see that 75% of the total votes cast were for conservative Republican candidates.

What is at Stake?

This is a big question.

Statewide, with Virginia government in a delicate balance between Republicans and Democrats in a time when many important policy decisions are hanging in the balance, every vote cast in the Virginia Senate is supremely important. Republicans need people of strong character and convictions representing their values.

Having an unreliable Senator like Timmy French jeopardizes Gov. Youngkin's agenda for the next two years, especially on Parental Rights and School Choice, as French is beholden to the Frederick County leftists on this issue.

Looking at the future of Frederick County, there is an ongoing tug of war between pro-growth, big government advocates (Frederick First) and fiscally conservative Republicans.

Timmy French is a wealthy businessman who has chosen to align himself against fiscally conservative Republican candidates. Voters can draw their own conclusions about where Timmy’s loyalty lies from that.

My recent Winchester Star Open Letter to Timmy French is available here.

I hope this information is helpful in explaining what happened on June 20th, and in the 45 days of early voting. Feel free to contact me with any further questions.
