LAROCK CALLS ON DANIEL TO REPUDIATE UNION TIES

Hamilton, VA – Dave LaRock called on Democrat candidate Mary Daniel to reconcile her October 28th press release in support of volunteer firefighters with her campaign’s actions. “There is a conflict between what Mary Daniel is saying and what her campaign is doing,” LaRock stated.

LaRock’s comments refer to Daniel’s receipt of a $10,000 cash donation from the IAFF, an international firefighter’s union directly opposed to volunteer firefighting. The IAFF prohibits its members from engaging in volunteer firefighting, and engages in antagonistic actions toward volunteering members.

The IAFF Constitution and By Laws, Article XV, Section 1, specifies that members “…may be reprimanded, fined, removed from office, suspended, or expelled…” for “…acquiring or maintaining membership in any such organization including volunteer fire departments or associations.”

A local volunteer told the LaRock campaign that "We have IAFF union fire fighters who work in our volunteer fire departments, they consider us rivals, they want it all, they want us gone. They push for rules and standards that crowd us out. They want training standards set so high that volunteers don't have time to go through the training."

Daniel’s press release did not address the conflict between her stated support for volunteers and the anti-volunteer policies of the IAFF, her second-largest cash contributor. LaRock calls for her to return the donation immediately.

“Volunteer firefighting is one of the purest expressions of community service, freedom of labor, and tax-saving innovation that exists,” said LaRock. “This is a tradition we need to be serious about defending. If we’re not, we’re going to pay dearly for it later. My opponent needs to decide who she’s going to serve in Richmond: The union that gave her $10,000 and is trying to systematically eliminate volunteer fire departments, or the volunteers, families and taxpayers of the 33rd District?"
