Election Day Recap and Local Veterans Day Events

Dear Friends,

I am encouraged by the results of this week's elections. The American people spoke out against the Democrat agenda of bigger, more-intrusive government, instead supporting a return to more freedom, rule of law, and free-market economic growth. While the media focus is mostly on the presidency, Republicans also maintained their majorities in the Congress, and built on their already-historic control of state governments.

I am disappointed that Virginia fell short in our effort to protect our Right-to-Work status by putting it in our Constitution.

Now that this difficult election is over, I hope the President-elect and Congress will work together to quickly fix some major issues, including:
  • Repealing Obamacare
  • Cut government red tape and taxes to revive our economy
  • Appoint an originalist to the Supreme Court
  • Protect the unborn, including codifying the Hyde Amendment, stopping taxpayer funding to Planned Parenthood, and passing the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.
  • Revoke Obama's Executive Orders, including the school transgender mandate
  • Common-sense reforms to immigration policies
  • Repeal of federal Common Core incentives
  • Fixing our Veterans' health care system

The president-elect's transition team began their work shortly after he won the nomination, and there is now an official website where you can learn more about President-Elect Trump's plans.

While those are some important federal issues, I am in the process of forming my legislation for the upcoming 2017 session. I will be bringing back several pieces of legislation which we worked on in past years, as well as looking into some new initiatives, including:
If you have suggestions for state-level innovation, please send them to me!

VETERANS DAY OBSERVANCES

Tomorrow is Veterans Day; I encourage everyone to thank our veterans for their service and the sacrifices they made to protect our nation and our freedom!

I will be speaking at the Town of Berryville and Clarke County's Veterans Day Ceremony at the Government Center Veterans Memorial tomorrow at 11 AM.

Following the ceremony there is a community lunch served at the VFW. I look forward to spending time with and honoring our Clarke County veterans! There will also be a Veterans Day Concert by the Clarke County Community Band in the evening.
